ABOUT US

Background

KMAT Housing Co-operative Society Limited was founded and registered on the 18th January, 2013, in accordance with the Co-operative Societies Act No. 12 of 1997 (Amended 2004).

The primary objectives behind the formation of the Society were:

a) To provide for its members living, commercial accommodation and livelihood within the area of its operation at a fair and reasonable price together with such ancillary services as roads, drainage, water and light.

b) To provide facilities for physical, cultural recreation and all such other matters as are usual, customary and desirous for building estates, blocks of flats or single dwellings

During the registration, the need for accommodation in Kenya had greatly surpassed the available housing units with the cost of land and houses going beyond reach of many workers in Kenya.

To be a leading society in the provision of quality, affordable and innovative housing and investment solutions in the region.

MISSON

Transforming livelihoods through mobilisation of funds, acquiring land for sale and constructing decent affordable houses through partnerships, diversified investments to maximise returns.

INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK

The Society’s membership is open to persons in both the public sector and the private sector as approved by the Board.

The supreme decision making organ of the society is the AGM, the Board of Directors (Board) elected by members at the AGM and the staff employed by the Board.

The Board and its committees oversee the corporate governance issues, develop strategic goals, corporate objectives, strategies and financial plans as well as evaluate the Society’s performance against the set goals and objectives.

The AGM elects a Supervisory Committee that oversees transparency in the operations of the organs of the Society.

Currently the Society has three standing committees of the Board namely:

• Executive/Finance Committee,

• Investment Committee

• Education Committee.

The Committees work is guided by the society values and bylaws to achieve the stated goals.

The Bylaws allow the Board to set up subcommittees to address specific assignments such as procurement as need arises.

Application for membership

Requirements for Application

  1. Copy of National ID.
  2. Copy of the latest pay slip (if applicable).
  3. Two (2) passport-size photographs. One photograph will be returned to you along with your KMAT Housing Membership Card.
  4. Entrance Fee: Kshs 2,000.00.
  5. Each member must accumulate a minimum of fifty shares, totaling Kshs 50,000.00, before starting to build savings.
  6. Nomination form/Next-of-kin form.
